That part of the story will be written by Heraclea… Needless to say it involved a Drake and pretty explosions…!

This evening has seen us roaming around near Ikao (Waskisen, in my case, ah, the nostalgia), and not finding much.

I’ve failed to flip “the trick” in Ikao already, despite a full jetcan of 27,000m3 in various denominations.  Corp is in an Alliance, and I cant be bothered scoping out member numbers of all the corps, though a local sweep shows no friendlies.  Yeah, I know.  I’m getting back in the saddle, m’k? ;D

Almost ready to give up on Waskisen, too, when 3 belts from the end (in a list of 20!) I spot a retriever/iteron IV pair shuttling ore via a jetcan.

Bookmark, warp on to check the rest of the belts. Nothing. Warp in on bookmark.  One unit pyroxeres in there to maintain the can.  c2000 unit loads going through every cycle.  I’ve already lifted 12,000 tritanium from a nearby wreck belonging to these guys (small 10 man corp, formed in the last month. Gives me an evilgasm ;D). They’re not biting.  Locked onto the retriever, hoping he’s on autotarget-back and has aggresive drones. No luck.

So I get to trying to swipe a load of ore in transit. nothing for 5 mins. Then, as I snag a load (itty pilot must’ve been a fraction distracted), which vanishes just as I confirm the amount to fill my hold.  Suddenly, the itty is a red on my overview.

Lock, scram, web. you know the rest ;D

Structure approaches, and I disarm the blastinators and convo, offering 4 mill to save his ship.  Its a bit rich for an itty 4, in all truth, but I’m delirious with success and prepared to be greedy/talked down to half that.

I had a quick chat with Kal in Corp chat. Was Niyabainen a newbie system? Can I get away with it? The consensus was that that it wasn’t a newbie system so it was his own fault for can mining… and lets face it, I haven’t had a kill yet and even a noob would feel good. Time to learn why this was a baaad idea.

The flip was simple, I’m not even sure he noticed. Around 50k of veld transferred into my can, bookmarked and off I warped to get some range. Give it a minute or two, watching him in local to see if he start flashing when he’s interfered with my new haul… and nothing!

Hmm.

I’ll go back and have a look, but hang on. There’s no can, just a new one of his…. How did it he do that? So, I flip him again, and this time hang around. He studiously ignores me and then all of a sudden, a badger turns up and takes the ore.

Hang on, did he not notice that this was my can? As soon as he turns red I’ve got him scrammed, webbed and taking fire. Finally, I thought to myself, a sure fire kill.

75% shields and he’s stopped moving.
50% shields he’s beginning to realign.
25% shields he’s almost there
Just into armour and…….. he warps out.

WTF!? How did he… oh, Warp Stabilisers. It’s been too long and I’m rusty. He must have fitted stabs.

I’ve got a serious case of can flipper blue balls now….

I spent most of yesterday prowling around my usual haunt, not finding target for quite a while, until I stumbled upon a Coveter (Scikin, I think!) and a Badger Mk II mining away in Haatomo. Quite a few tech II drones out, but it definitely looks manageable.

Warp in, flip the ore. Book mark my can and warp out. Warp back 200km away and watch. They are both from a 50 member or so corp, so my heart was pounding, expecting help to come jumping into system but nothing happens. They ignore the can. Ignore me. Another can pops out so I fly that. Not a peep in local. Not even a targeting.

I hang around a bit, and then fly off, waiting for them to take their ore back. Nothing.

I leave system, come back 15 minutes later. They’ve moved on, leaving my can.

Oh damn, this is getting boring. Don’t they know they are supposed to flip me back? Have a whine in local about it? DO something to keep me entertained?

I don’t even have a helpful hauler nearby to move the ore to a station and I’m not moving 10k m3 of ore in my bloody rifter!

GAH!

The office has been re-opened, the secretary re-hired,  the cobwebs swept out of the hangars and the meat popsicles put back in their display cases.

Yeah, so, Lars was camping the Niaja->Bahromab gate in his Claw. Azul and I were in Bahromab causing a little bit of trouble. I decide to go and check Niarja, just to see how many other Zephyr’s were waiting there to surprise us. Surprise suprise, there were three of them! So, seeing Lars in his Claw, I decide to have a go, hell, if I can catch it I should be able to take it out before the rest can warp in.

A few volleys later, the Claw, and then his Pod is spacedust, having not really done very much. I wonder to myself, could their main point on their little trap _really_ have done for a bio, knowing we were active in the next system? The private chat says it all….
